Built for the Modern Adventurer

Whether you’re braving tough terrains or managing your daily routine, the Casio G-Shock DWE-5600CC-3ER delivers functionality, reliability, and rugged aesthetics. Its lightweight yet robust design makes it an excellent companion for any journey.

Appearance

The box is green with gold inserts, designed to resemble a circuit board.
The outer box has matte inserts, while the inner ones are glossy.

Inside the box are the watch, two extra straps, and a black bezel.
The package also includes various instructions, a warranty card, and a plastic tool for easy bezel removal (inside the small packet on the right, not clearly visible but will appear in photos).

The module used is 3229, with basic functions: stopwatch, timer, alarm, hourly signal, backlight, calendar, and 12/24-hour time format. No additional languages, Bluetooth, or solar charging. Both the module and bezel with strap are styled to look like a circuit board.

The back cover is secured with four screws, and also features a circuit board design. The “Carbon Core Guard” technology is mentioned, but it’s unclear how it strengthens the plastic case with carbon fiber. However, G-Shocks have been durable enough for activities like hockey for over 40 years, so the new technology likely doesn’t make a significant difference for most users.

The strap is quite stiff, and out of the three included, it’s the least comfortable to wear. However, it does allow light to pass through when placed near a light source. On the wrist, the transparency is not noticeable.

The buckle is gold, matching the “circuit board” style. The strap attachment is quick-release. Alternative straps and bezel are included. There’s a special groove for bezel removal.

Removing the bezel makes the watch look “bare,” and while it can be worn like this, it doesn’t look aesthetically pleasing. The buttons protrude, and the small size of the module compared to the strap attachments stands out.

With a black bezel, the watch still looks good, but when paired with a black strap, there was an issue — the buckle was installed incorrectly.

The black strap is more comfortable than the previous one because it’s softer. The black frame around the green module is visually appealing, but the main reason for buying the watch isn’t its aesthetics.

The third strap is fabric-based with a polyurethane core, making it the softest. It has a black-and-white circuit board pattern. The strap attaches via small adapters, offering greater flexibility and comfort compared to the other two. Though it’s the most comfortable, it’s less interesting visually than the “green” version.

The backlight of the screen has a thematic feature, but it makes it harder to read the text. It’s better to view the screen at an angle.

Impressions

The watch (with the fabric strap) weighs 50 grams. Accuracy: approximately plus three minutes per year. At this price, more features would be desirable, but since this is a limited edition, the cost is justified by the design and styling.

It wears like a standard G-Shock. The fabric strap offers better fit and comfort due to its adjustable attachment angles. The design and packaging make this watch a great gift for anyone involved in electronics or IT.

Personally, I wear these watches infrequently; my go-to G-Shock is the GW-B5600BC-1E, which I find more functional, with a better strap and more readable display.

The idea of interchangeable straps and bezels is interesting, though it hasn’t taken off globally. Casio continues to sell watches from this series, including one or two extra bezels and straps, but the infrastructure for exchanging straps and bezels is only available in Japan through My G-Shock, where you can personalize your watch with different bezel colors, straps, buttons, and even backlight designs.

As for other interesting options, I’d consider the DWE-5640RX-7, a limited-edition model with a transparent design. The transparent screen base lets you see the internals of the watch, but the readability is questionable. It’s a pure fashion watch from G-Shock.

Verdict

Apart from its design, the watch doesn’t offer anything special; functionally, it’s a typical G-Shock.
Most of the value comes from the interchangeable straps and bezels.
So, these watches are best suited for those who enjoy the specific design, but if you’re looking for durable watches, there are plenty of other more affordable options.
As I mentioned at the beginning, this was an impulse purchase. I don’t regret it, but I wear these less often. I prefer the GW-B5600BC-1E for its practicality, better strap, and more readable display, even though it lacks these fancy add-ons.
